SoundBox Music is a female-led artist services and management company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, working across the folk, traditional, and roots music sectors in Canada and internationally. Founded in 2019 by Caroline Murphy and Sarah Atkinson, SoundBox Music is built on over a decade of combined experience as performers, tour managers, publicists, and project leads within the music industry.
SoundBox Music specializes in artist management and development, project and tour management, label services, and strategic publicity and marketing for artists and festivals. The company works closely with artists and their teams to define clear objectives, assess current needs, and develop realistic, long-term strategies that support sustainable career growth.
With a strong commitment to the folk and Celtic music community, SoundBox Music supports both established and emerging artists, helping them expand their reach, strengthen their professional infrastructure, and navigate the evolving music industry with clarity and confidence.
OUR STORY
Caroline Murphy
Originally from Ireland, Caroline has a B.A. in Irish Music and Dance from the University of Limerick and an M.A. in Cultural Policy and Arts Management from University College Dublin. Caroline has an impressive background deeply rooted in Celtic music, propelling her into a career managing the iconic Irish traditional music group, De Danann, one of the most influential bands in the history of traditional Irish music, from 2013-2016.
Building on her expertise, Caroline transitioned into the world of live events as a highly skilled production coordinator. She made significant contributions to renowned festivals such as the Volvo Ocean Race and Electric Picnic, where her meticulous coordination and attention to detail ensured seamless and memorable experiences for attendees.
After having lived in Canada for seven years, Caroline embarked on a new chapter by relocating to Wales in 2022. This move expanded her commitment to supporting musicians and festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, strengthening her role as a trusted ally for numerous esteemed clients.
Sarah Atkinson
Sarah Atkinson is an experienced arts professional with nearly two decades in the music industry. A former six-year Board Member and Treasurer of Music Nova Scotia, she has helped shape policy and support the growth of Nova Scotiaโs music sector.
As co-founder of SoundBox Music, Sarah leads marketing and communications, developing strategic campaigns for album releases, tours, and festivals. She specializes in digital marketing, content creation, and social media for folk, roots, and Celtic artists, helping them grow their audiences in national and international markets.
Sarah also teaches in the Creative Industries Department at NSCC, where she supports emerging arts professionals through courses in marketing, communications, and entrepreneurship. Passionate about mentorship and community engagement, she brings a blend of creativity, strategy, and leadership to every project.
